CDC Director's Innovation Awards

The CDC Director’s Innovation Awards were established to recognize the members of the CDC community—which for 2008 included collaborators from academia, the National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute, and from private business—who use innovation to advance CDC’s mission to create the knowledge, tools, and networks that people and communities need to protect their health and prepare for threats. Eligible innovations were those that had been implemented within the last two years, have achieved demonstrable impact, and are now in use.

Congratulations to the 2008 CDC Director’s Innovation Awards, listed hereafter, who were recognized during a special ceremony at CDC on March 30, 2009, by Richard E. Besser, MD, Acting Director, CDC, and Bradley C. Perkins, MD, MBA, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer and Chief, Office of Strategy and Innovation. Guest speaker Andrew Hargadon, MS, PhD, Associate Professor of Technology Management at the Graduate School of Management, Director, Center for Entrepreneurship and Energy Efficiency Center University of California, Davis, delivered the lecture “Networks of Innovation.”
