SOLAR 2007 is the National Solar Energy Conference and is presented by the American Solar Energy Society (ASES). A new Small Wind Technical Division with ASES is Chaired by Trudy Forsyth and has catalyzed much of this new focus.

A number of small wind companies will show their products at SOLAR 2007. Depending on the demand, the booths will be organized together in a small wind pavilion. More information on exhibiting at the conference.
During the public day, representatives from the Ohio state energy office will explain incentives available in Ohio.
PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP
Small Wind Power for Homes, Farms, Businesses and Schools
Sunday, July 8, 8:30am to 5:30pm (extra fee)
Presented by: Jim Green, National Renewable Energy Lab and Robert Preus, Abundant Renewable Energy
This workshop will provide an overview wind power with an emphasis on small wind turbine applications. Attendees will understand the fundamental considerations of wind resource, wind turbine technology, and economics. Participants will understand the basic steps of a successful small wind project including system sizing, tower height, micro-siting, and permitting. The workshop will also explore the complementarity of solar and wind resources and will include case studies of successful projects that combine wind and PV. The workshop will also include lunch and a half-day small wind turbine installation demonstration.

Bringing "Solar Convection" Technology into the Mainstream: Small Wind Turbine Installer Forum

Organized by: Trudy Forsyth, NREL/National Wind Technology Center
Attendees will gain insight on the current strategies employed by successful small wind installers, answer poignant questions on the challenges of installing small turbines and discuss the upcoming NABCEP certification for small wind installers. Presentations will describe advantages and expenses of installing with various utilities and counties and identify winning strategies they have used to open up the local market. Speakers will briefly review the turbines they install and identify the site-specific factors that can affect installation and turbine performance (obstructions, tower height, setback requirements, etc.), recommendations for properly remanufacturing used equipment, required maintenance, and safety requirements (including work platforms, fall-arrest anchors, and fall-arrest systems). Attendees will be given ample time for questions and interactive discussion with panel members.

Date: 11/18/2002 to 11/19/2002Location: Dublin , OHThe Department of Energy's Chicago Regional Office, on behalf of the DOE Wind Program, co-sponsored this wind workshop. Co-sponsors included the Ohio Department of Development's Office of Energy Efficiency, Green Energy Ohio, the American Corn Grower's Association, and Green Mountain Energy Company. The conference served as a forum to explore primarily small wind system applicability in Ohio and featured briefings and presentations on wind resources, wind technology, project development, and benefits and barriers related to wind installation. The conference featured a tour of a nearby small wind system and wind educational center. Invited speakers included small wind industry experts and manufacturers, federal and state energy and economic development officials, rural landowners, and product distributors.
