New Mexico Wind Working Group Quarterly Meeting

Both meetings scheduled in December were cancelled due to inclement weather conditions. The meeting is now scheduled for January 20th. During this meeting we will discuss our areas of interest then prioritize the topics to generate a group focus.

Regional Renewable Energy Development Workshop: Southwest Tribes

This workshop focuses on the renewable energy development opportunities available to tribes in a specific region. This interactive course is designed to explore strategic energy planning and energy options to meet the long term energy goals of your Tribe. The workshop is focused on: 1) renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency concepts; 2) renewable energy project development; 3) organization and legal framework for development; and 4) financing options leading toward sustainable tribal communities. The morning is full of information important to the future of wind development within the State. The afternoon session is designed to select what direction and activities the group feels it would like to follow in the future. This will be a time to discuss what the role of the Wind Working Group can be and to volunteer to help it reach that goal. Please, come to the meeting armed with ideas, concepts, and desires. If you have a project that you would like to give an update on, please, be prepared to do so in a two to five minute timeframe.

Southwest Renewable Energy Conference

Technical sessions will offer:

Plenary sessions will be offered on Climate Change and Western Energy Choices, and Creating Regional Renewable Markets. Receptions and events will be offered to provide time for participants to network and share ideas.

The Department of Energy's Sandia National Laboratory, on behalf of the DOE Wind Program, co-sponsored this wind energy conference. Co-sponsors included the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department and the American Wind Energy Association. The conference focused on economic and energy benefits from wind development; the technical, market and information barriers to wind development; project development processes; and role of state policies. A wide range of experts and stakeholders from the wind industry, utilities, national, state and local officials, tribal representatives, universities, and the national laboratories participated.
