The NCEP Eta model at CPC has been implemented as part of
monitoring short-term weather in Africa. Currently the model is implemented to run forecasts over the domains of
southern africa, western africa and eastern africa. Later, afghanistan has been included in the suite of forecasts.
As of this writing, the model implementation is evolving to include more and better products. For additional details
about the model implementation please read the documentation(PDF). Update times are in
Eastern Standard Time.

Please note that the forecast output timings
are driven by the current active rainfall seasons for the respective domains and also by the special weather events
like tropical cyclones. This page is not maintained on 24/7 basis. Owing to the limited computational resources, if
a forecast fails for any reason it can not be resubmitted for the day. It will be submitted at the scheduled time
the following day.
Special Note: Users of the forecast products are advised to use the information in conjunction with other
model forecasts including the global models, ground based and satellite observations and reports from the respective
regional and local weather centers. A verification of the eta model forecasts for Africa and Afghanistan is not yet
done and left for future research investigations.
