The Office of International Activities (OIA) supports the coordination and development of programs and initiatives that foster international research, training and collaborations that are relevant to the institute's mission.

NINDS International Funding Opportunities

  • International Neuroscience Fellowship (F05)

    This program provides a unique opportunity to qualified foreign neuroscientists, at the junior or mid-career level, to receive one or more years of research training in the United States (U.S.).  Eligible individual applicants include non-immigrant foreign scientists who are currently residing outside the U.S. The applicant is required to have a doctoral degree (or its equivalent) and a sponsor in the U.S. who is affiliated with an eligible U.S. organization. This individual must also have an endorsement from their home institution, and an appointment in an institution in their home country upon completion of the fellowship. The proposed research training must be within the scope of biomedical, behavioral, or clinical research as it relates to neuroscience, and should enhance the trainee’s knowledge and skills to conduct independent research in his or her home country.

  • US-JAPAN Brain Research Cooperative Program (BRCP) - US Component

    This supplement program promotes scientist exchange, training, and research collaborations between neuroscientists from the U.S. and Japan. The U.S. component of the BRCP supports the following activities: 1) Visit of U.S. scientists to conduct collaborative research and/or to acquire advanced research skills in Japanese institutions; 2) U.S.-Japan joint workshops to exchange scientific information and to foster collaborations on topics relevant to the mission of the BRCP. All applicants must have a currently active NIH grant from one of the participating NIH institutes.
