Rural Policing Institute
Our Mission
The Rural Policing Institute (RPI) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) develops tuition-free, specialized and advanced training, based upon sound research and delivers it to city, county and tribal law enforcement officers, fire and other emergency response providers located in rural areas.
These training programs are not only offered at FLETC facilities, many are exported to select sites throughout the country.

Registration
Prerequisites for Attendance
This training program is open to qualified/full-time, city, campus, county, state and tribal law enforcement officers who work in a “rural area” which is defined as an area that is not located in a metropolitan statistical area, as defined by the Office of Management and Budget (www.whitehouse.gov/omb/bulletins/fy2009/09-01.pdf).
Tuition and Cost
- Tuition is FREE for qualified applicants.
- Lodging will be provided FREE for training programs conducted at the FLETC in Artesia, NM; Charleston, SC; and Glynco, GA, for those participants who live more than 50 miles from the training site.
- Free lodging may be available at other training venues. Availability of free lodging will be included in the confirmation notice.
- Meals and travel costs will NOT be funded by the RPI.
