Putting Energy Savings "On Ice"!Ice storage technology has been around for many years. Ice is "built" during the night when electrical rates are typically cheaper, and "burned" during the day when cooling demand is high. There are currently two NSA facilities using this technology to provide chilled water for cooling. However, implementing this technology in the main NSA complex is not practical at this time because, as a 24/7 operation, the complex has a fairly constant chilled water demand. As with all energy-saving technologies, if a new application exists, NSA will explore it to the fullest to see if that technology can be used to provide any additional energy savings. |
