NSA Goes Green![]() ![]() NSA's Green FleetLong before fuel costs began to skyrocket, NSA recognized the need to "green" the NSA fleet of vehicles to conserve energy, improve air quality, and reduce greenhouse gases. NSA is buying more fuel-efficient vehicles - ones capable of utilizing flex-fuels or no fuel at all - to reduce the impact on the environment and set an example for the use of emerging clean-air technologies.
On Earth Day 2008, NSA also unveiled a new type of vehicle for use at the main campus, thanks to a Recycling Committee-funded pilot program to determine whether low-speed campus vehicles are appropriate for long-term use. This low-speed vehicle is street legal, with a top speed of 25 mph, cruising range of about 30 miles, and an all-electric battery that can be charged using regular voltage power. NSA is currently planning to replace several full-sized government-owned vehicles with these new vehicles, potentially saving over 300 gallons of gasoline each year. The new "green fleet" is only one way in which NSA is moving to renewable technologies. |
