Sharon L. Stark, Senior Economic and Policy Advisor for the Senior Deputy Director
Sharon L. Stark joined the OTS in May 2007 from Stifel Nicolaus & Company, Inc., a securities brokerage firm, where she was the Chief Market Strategist. Prior to joining Stifel, she was with Legg Mason Wood Walker, Incorporated, for 11 years, holding the position of the Chief Market Strategist and Director of the Fixed Income Research and Strategy Group in the Baltimore office. She frequently appeared on CNBC, Reuters and Bloomberg News and was quoted in the financial press on her analysis of the economy and the bond markets. During the past twelve years, Ms. Stark was nominated numerous times for Institutional Investor’s All-America Fixed Income Research Team.
Prior to joining Legg Mason, Ms. Stark worked for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation for five years, serving as Deputy Assistant Director for Supervision in her last position. Through her participation in various policy-developing committees, including the Basel Committee for Banking Supervision and the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council, Ms. Stark participated in the development of regulations on the use of fixed income securities and on management of interest rate risk in banks.
Ms. Stark's experience also includes five years as a portfolio manager for a regional bank and two years as a securities trader. She is a graduate of The George Washington University with a B.A. in Finance. Ms. Stark is an active participant in civic and private organizations serving children and the arts, and was named one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women for her professional and philanthropic achievements.
