SRNS and WSRC receive safety awards

In the past several weeks, SRNS and WSRC each received three awards for safe perfor­mance by organizations outside the Site’s boundary.
First, the National Safety Council awarded both companies operations component its Occupa­tional Excellence Achievement Award given for a lost workday case rate that is better than 50 percent of the comparable industry average. Alost workday case occurs when an employee has an injury or illness that results in lost work time.
Next, the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance (SCMA) awarded both companies its 2008 Plant
Plant Safety Award for excellent injury rate performance, recognizing the fact that its operations rate for lost and restricted workday cases was far less than the industry average. Arestricted workday case occurs when an employee has an injury or illness that results in restricted work time.
Finally, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce recognized both companies with its 2008 Commendation of Excellence Award for operations lost workday frequency rates at SRS and for achieving greater than one million hours without an injury requiring days away from work
SRNS and WSRC received the awards for their respective time as SRS con­tractors. WSRC received the award for its work as the M&O contractor (includ­ing Liquid Waste) from Jan. 1-July 31, 2008, and as the Liquid Waste contractor Aug. 1.-Dec. 31, 2008. SRNS received the award for its work as the M&O contractor from Aug. 1-Dec. 31, 2008.
