Worker’s Memorial Day — April 28, 2009
April 23, 2009
This program is presented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CDC — safer, healthier people.
Americans are among the most industrious, hard-working people in the world, but every year, thousands of U.S. workers are killed or injured in the workplace. In 2007, over 5,000 people died from injuries sustained at work, and approximately 49,000 died from work-related diseases. A recent estimate showed that employers paid over 87 million dollars in worker’s compensation. Employers are responsible for ensuring workplace safety. Workers play a vital role in identifying and correcting problems and assisting their employer with workplace safety whenever possible.
