WASHINGTON (January 13, 2009)—Last March, the U.S. Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) held a blood drive at FBI Headquarters (FBIHQ). By day’s end, nearly 200 FBI agents and support professionals had rolled up their sleeves to support the men and women in our nation’s military.
The ASBP returned on Nov. 19, 2008, to FBIHQ in what the FBI’s Information and Technology Branch’s (ITB’s) Scott Robinson calls “no ordinary blood drive.” Robinson became involved in the ASBP through his many volunteer connections and coordinated both the March and November blood drives.
“Military members and their families depend on blood donors every day. The mission of the ASBP is to provide quality products, blood substitutes, and services for all worldwide customers in peace and war. In fact, anyone receiving blood on a military reservation or in a combat theater will receive blood through the ASBP—that includes FBI personnel who are serving overseas in a theater of military operations or who are treated at U.S. military bases or hospitals,” Robinson said.
“The ASBP is happy to get just one unit of blood,” Robinson noted. “The fact that FBI employees are so willing to donate blood speaks to how dedicated our organization is to helping others.”
The next ASBP-FBI blood drive is scheduled for September 11, 2009. The ASBP holds blood drives throughout the year, both in the United States and overseas. For more information, visit the organization’s website at
