What's New in CDC WONDER
CDC WONDER is in the process of adding additional content and functionality. This page lists what was recently added, what is coming, and long-term objectives. We welcome feedback from users like you on what you would like added to WONDER's data and services.
Standard features:
New look and feel for data query features
Select the "tab" shown near the top of the page to:
- Request data with up to 5 cross-tabulations, such as national data grouped by state, county, age, race and sex. Find values within complex classification schemes, such as counties across several states.
- Organize tables to display summary counts and data rows organized or nested by data groupings, such as counties nested under the "parent" state with state totals, and export the data into tab-delimited files for easier import into your analysis applications.
- Chart your data for enhanced visual analysis, combine measures;
- Map each data element, select quantiles or set custom break-points for data distributions, and more.
Create colorful charts of your data query results!
Chart your data for enhanced visual analysis. You can choose from several charts styles, select independent and dependent variables, combine measures, and more. For more information on how to use the charting feature, see "How can I make charts of my data results?" in the Quick Start Guide.Maps of national, state and county data
Create national, state and county maps of your data! CDC WONDER and GATHER have collaborated to produce maps for WONDER data query applications. GATHER is an acronym for Geographic Analysis Tool for Health & Environmental Research (GATHER), a product of the CDC NCEH/ATSDR Geographic Research, Analysis and Services Program (GRASP).How to make a map? First request data grouped by a location, such as State or County, in order to map the data. After the results are displayed, click the Map tab, found near the top of the page. See "How do I make a map?" for more information. You can make maps for each data element measured, choose whether to display interstates, rivers and labels, choose your color scheme, and select quantiles or set custom break-points for data groups.
Availability
These standard features are currently available for the following WONDER online databases:- Population Estimates
- Online Tuberculosis Information System (OTIS)
- Sexually Transmitted Disease Morbidity
- Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS)
Logon requirement removed
WONDER user accounts have become less important, and less frequently used, as time has gone on. We have decided to retire all WONDER user accounts, thus removing the need to logon to WONDER, making the system more easily accessible to all of our users.New home pages
We have identified the list of WONDER system data queries on our home page, since access to data is what WONDER is all about. The inclusive list of CDC web resources is still available, click on the "Topics" tab for a categorized list, or click on the "A-Z Index" tab for an alphabetical list.Improved search
Search the entire WONDER site, or search the Scientific Data and Prevention Guidelines document collections.Recently Added Data:
Disease Trends data for 1996 - last week
- Mortality data from the CDC 122 Cities Mortality Reporting System as printed in Table III of the MMWR each week.
- Morbidity data on provisional cases of selected national notifiable diseases, from the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS). NNDSS data reported by the 50 states, New York City, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories are collated and published weekly as numbered tables printed in the back of the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR). Cases reported by state health departments to CDC for weekly publication are provisional because of ongoing revision of information and delayed reporting.
- Data are updated weekly.
Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System data for the years 1990 - last month
- Information collected for reports of adverse health effects after vaccination with licensed vaccines. Data are available for the United States by state, age group, gender, vaccine and symptoms for reports received since the year 1990. Review data limitations and cautions in the interpretation of this data before use.
- Data extracts feature Public Health Information Network (PHIN) compatible coding standards when applicable.
- Data are updated monthly.
Data2010 system data for monitoring Healthy People 2010 Goals - last quarter
- DATA2010 is an interactive database system developed by staff of the Division of Health Promotion Statistics at the National Center for Health Statistics, and contains the most recent monitoring data for tracking Healthy People 2010. Data are included for all the objectives and subgroups identified in the Healthy People 2010: Objectives for Improving Health. DATA2010 contains primarily national data. However, state-based data are provided as available. All data in DATA2010 are the most recent available and may include revisions or corrections. Therefore, some data may differ from data previously shown.
- Data are updated quarterly.
Online Tuberculosis Information System (OTIS) for the years 1993-2007
- Information on verified tuberculosis (TB) cases reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) by state health departments, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. These data were extracted from the CDC national TB surveillance system. Data for demographic and disease characteristics are included in the data set. Obtain incidence counts and rates, and show the percentage of cases that have completed therapy in less than 1 year of diagnosis, and cases tested for drug susceptibility. Data are available at the national, state, and large metropolitan statistical area level since the year 1993.
- Data extracts feature Public Health Information Network (PHIN) compatible coding standards.
- Data are updated annually.
Bridged-Race Population Estimates for the years 1990 - 2007
- Population denominator data based on the July 1st resident population intercensal Census Estimates for 1990-1999, and the July 1st postcensal estimates for the years 2000 and later. Data are available at the national, state or county level for age groups or for single-year-of-age cohorts. The 31 race categories from the year 2000 Census are "bridged" to 4 race categories for trends analysis of Public Health data.
- Data extracts feature Public Health Information Network (PHIN) compatible coding standards.
- Data are updated annually.
Sexually Transmitted Disease data for the years 1984-2006
