Purpose: The purpose of this initiative is to make resources available for currently funded scientists to form research teams to tackle complex problems that are of central importance to biomedical science and to the mission of NIGMS, but that are beyond the means of any one research group. A high level of resources may be requested to allow participating investigators to form a consortium to address the research problem in a comprehensive and highly integrated fashion.
New Applications: NIGMS reannounced the large-scale collaborative awards (glue grants) program in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts in July 2007 (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-07-412.html). The initiative was reannounced as a program announcement instead of a request for applications, which will run for 3 consecutive years with annual receipt dates. NIGMS does not plan a set-aside of funds for this program, and awards will be dependent on availability of funds. NIGMS does not anticipate making more than one new glue grant (Phase II award) per year.
