NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Have you ever wanted to bring your business into the world of federal contracting, but you were not sure where to begin? Now is your chance to learn at two upcoming business education classes.

Hosted by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), an "Introduction to Federal Contracting" will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2009 and "A 'How-To' Workshop: Navigating the Web for Contracts" will take place Thursday, March 19, 2009. Both classes, which are free and open to the public, are from 9 a.m. to noon at the FEMA Training Facility, 800 West Commerce, Harahan, LA 70804.

Tuesday's introductory workshop will teach participants how to register with Dun and Bradstreet for a contractor DUNS number, register with the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) and get on the U.S. General Services Administration schedule. In addition, the SBA will show how to obtain small business certifications and successfully learn how to navigate Web sites that contain contracting opportunities.

On Thursday, SBA and FEMA representatives will help attendees register in the CCR database and peruse various Web sites to identify contract opportunities. Those attending will learn how to navigate the following Web sites: Federal Business Opportunities (FEDBIZOPPS), the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Interagency Database Online (FIDO) and the General Login System (GLS).

Pre-registration is required for both workshops. For information or to RSVP, call 504-589-2756 or send your name, agency name, address, phone number, fax number and e-mail address to jo.lawrence3@sba.gov or fax it to 504-589-2339.
