Renton Raises The Bar For Flood Protection
Property Owners to Enjoy Lower Flood Insurance Premiums

RENTON, Wash. -- Renton property owners already enjoy reduced flood insurance premiums, and thanks to their city's participation in the National Flood Insurance Program voluntary Community Rating System (CRS), they're about to pay even less. According to FEMA Regional Director David L. de Courcy, CRS rewards communities that implement policies to reduce risk and mitigate damage from future flooding, by reducing the rates policyholders pay for flood insurance.
"The CRS rewards communities for mitigating flood risks that threaten their residents, above and beyond those minimum actions required for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program," said de Courcy. "Categories range from Mapping and Regulations, to Flood Damage Reduction, Flood Preparedness, and Public Awareness outreach. The City of Renton has covered all the bases."
Renton Mayor Jesse Tanner agrees. "We're proud of our participation in the National Flood Insurance Program, and the Community Rating System," said Tanner. "National Flood Insurance is already pretty affordable, but our new Class Seven rating will save Renton policyholders even more."
Flood insurance premium reductions run in five percent increments, from five percent to 45 percent. Class ratings run from Ten to One, and the City of Renton's soon-to-be-awarded Class Seven rating will save policyholders 15 percent off the scheduled rate.
