One Week Remains Till Deadline For State and FEMA Disaster Recovery Application

Santa Fe, NM -- Victims of May's wildfires in New Mexico have one week left to apply for disaster recovery assistance, according to state and federal officials.
Wednesday, July 12 is the deadline to call the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) toll-free registration number, 1-800-462-9029 (TTY: 1-800-462-7585). Hours of operation for registration are 8 a.m. till 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
As of Wednesday morning, July 5, 3,320 individuals had applied for assistance, 3,096 of whom are from Los Alamos County.
Assistance may include grants for temporary housing and minor emergency home repairs or free use of a temporary mobile home. Applicants also may be eligible for low-interest U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loans for homeowners, renters and business owners. Individuals who do not have the ability to repay an SBA loan may be eligible for grants for serious, disaster-related needs not covered by other government or volunteer agency programs. By July 5, more than $755,000 in grants and more than $15.6 million in SBA loans have been approved.
