FEMA and State To Open Disaster Recovery Centers In Fargo And Grand Forks On July 10

Bismarck, ND -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), North Dakota Division of Emergency Management and the U.S. Small Business Administration are opening Disaster Recovery Centers in Fargo and Grand Forks on July 10.

Representatives of federal, state and voluntary agencies will staff the centers, providing information and answering questions about the assistance available to residents of the 18 counties and two Indian Reservations designated disaster areas following the severe storms, flooding and ground saturation beginning June 12.

Federal Coordinating Officer Steven Emory, of FEMA and Doug Friez, state coordinating officer, encourage anyone who has suffered losses or damages as a result of the disaster to register with FEMA by calling toll-free: 1-800-462-9029. (TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing- or speech-impaired). Operators are taking calls from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., daily.

Individuals with additional questions should visit the centers from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays. The centers will be closed on July 21 and 22, but will reopen July 24. The centers are located at:

Programs available to eligible applicants include but are not limited to::

Disaster Housing Assistance. Administered by FEMA, for individuals and families whose homes were destroyed or made unlivable as a result of the disaster. The program provides funding for temporary accommodations or repairs needed to make a home habitable.

Low-interest loans. From the U.S. Small Business Administration for homeowners, renters or business owners for the repair, replacement or rebuilding of disaster-damaged property.

Grants. Through the Individual and Family Grant program for people who have serious immediate needs resulting from the disaster that cannot be met by other sources.

Technical Advice. On common-sense strategies to minimize losses in future disasters.
