ALBANY, N.Y. -- Many useful publications to help New Yorkers rebuild their flood damaged homes are available from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and can be downloaded from the FEMA Web site, www.fema.gov, or ordered toll-free at 1-800-480-2520.

Publication information can be found by visiting the FEMA Web site and selecting "Publications" at the drop-down box toward the bottom of the left-hand column entitled "How Do I Find." Information also may be found by typing in the name of the publication, or the word "mitigation," in the "Advanced Search" box at the top right corner of the FEMA home page, or selecting the "Recover & Rebuild" feature in the center of the page.

Many publications can be downloaded, or ordered from the FEMA publications warehouse, on topics including mitigation, managing stress, preparing for disasters and FEMA for Kids. Many are available in Spanish and other languages.

A few of the publications on rebuilding after a flood include:

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program.  FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
