ALBANY, N.Y. -- With deadlines for registration less than three weeks away, New York State and federal officials continue to intensify public outreach efforts to ensure New Yorkers who suffered losses as a result of the severe storms and floods in June receive all eligible disaster assistance available to them.

Beginning Monday, August 21, representatives from the New York State Department of Labor, the Empire State Development Corporation, New York State Emergency Management Office (SEMO), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be at the following locations to assist flood victims:

Personnel from these agencies are also staffing centers at the Susquehanna Valley High School , 1040 Conklin Road in Conklin; and at the Town of Union Municipal Building, 3111 East Main Street in Endwell.

The hours of operation for all of the centers are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

State personnel at these centers will answer program questions, assist individuals in determining the status of their applications and help resolve application issues.

The State Individual and Family Grant (IFG) program, established by Governor George E. Pataki and administered by the state Department of Labor, provides individuals, families and small businesses with grants of up to $5,000 for documented flood losses not covered by insurance or other government programs.

Small businesses who qualify for the IFG program are also eligible for grants of up to $20,000 for clean-up, repair and replacement of lost inventory under the Comprehensive Flood Relief Package program administered by the Empire State Development Corporation.

Registrations for the New York State Individual and Family Grant Program must be received by Tuesday, September 5, 2006.

Registrations for federal aid must be received by Friday, September 1, 2006.

Victims of the June floods need to make two phone calls for assistance:

The registration period and the deadline apply to the major federal disaster declaration on July 1 that enabled residents and business owners in Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Herkimer, Montgomery, Oneida, Orange, Otsego, Schoharie, Sullivan, Tioga and Ulster counties to register for federal recovery aid.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003
