Mitigation staff offers tips for smarter, safer repairs

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Mitigation experts from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be on hand to discuss mitigation options for flood-damaged homes and businesses.

As Pennsylvania homeowners, renters, contractors and business owners repair and rebuild from the late-June flooding that affected the Commonwealth, FEMA is working in communities providing assistance to prevent future losses. Examples of mitigation projects include elevating a home, anchoring a fuel tank, or installing an interior or exterior foundation drainage system.

In partnership with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) and Lowes, FEMA mitigation specialists will be available at:

Monday, August 7 until Sunday, August 13
8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
