Honolulu, HI -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Hawaii State Civil Defense will open a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Hilo at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2000. The center will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (HST) daily, starting Tuesday, Nov. 14.
Residents affected by the storms will be able to meet face-to-face with federal, state, county and volunteer agency representatives at the DRC. Those who suffered damage can obtain information about disaster assistance programs, discuss their disaster related needs, update their registration information, obtain help in filling out a U.S.Small Business Administration loan application, or learn about mitigation measures to reduce the risk of future loss.
State/FEMA officials point out that the center is available to help those who sustained losses from the recent storms and flooding but only after they have registered for assistance via the FEMA toll-free number 1-800-462-9029. For hearing or speech impaired call 1-800-462-7585 (TTY). The teleregistration number is available starting Friday, Nov. 10, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.
