ALEXANDRIA, La. -- Louisiana state and Federal officials will meet Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 1 p.m. in the parish for an Applicant's Briefing with state and local government agencies, private nonprofit organizations and institutions in the Natchitoches Parish. The purpose of the meeting will be to provide an overview of the Public Assistance Program for local governments who suffered property damage or loss by the mid-October severe storms and flooding.

Natchitoches Parish was added on Dec. 11 to the original parishes designated for Public Assistance with the major disaster declaration on Nov. 2 authorizing Public Assistance. The declaration provides qualifying parishes with financial assistance to repair or replace disaster-damaged public facilities.

The briefing provides applicants the opportunity to submit a Request for Public Assistance (RPA), which must be submitted to the Louisiana state Public Assistance Officer by Jan. 10, 2007, which is within 30 days of the date of declaration of a disaster or designation of an area.  The form may be submitted at the Applicant's Briefing, by mail, by fax or electronically.  Applicants may obtain a copy of the request and receive information about the process from the state emergency management organization, at the Applicant's Briefing, by visiting Louisiana's Public Assistance Web site at www.louisianapa.com or by calling 318-619-3141.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident, initiates mitigation activities and manages the National Flood Insurance Program.  FEMA works closely with state and local emergency managers, law enforcement personnel, firefighters and other first responders.
