URBANDALE, Iowa -- The Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division and The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will open Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) on Friday, June 1, for residents who suffered damage from the May 5 -7 severe storms, floods, and tornadoes.

The DRCs are at the following locations:

Missouri Valley High School, Room 326,
321 East Erie Street
Missouri Valley, IA 51555

Jack & Jill Preschool (adjacent to Nishna Valley YMCA)
1100 Maple Street
Atlantic, IA 50022

Regular hours of the DRC will be 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday until further notice.

DRC staff can answer questions about registration for disaster assistance and hazard mitigation, help with disaster loan applications and provide information and contacts for other programs.

On May 25, the President declared that individuals living in Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Ida, Mills, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, Shelby, Taylor and Union counties may be eligible for federal disaster aid.

Homeowners, renters and business owners affected by the recent severe storms, flooding and tornadoes are encouraged to apply for assistance by calling the telephone registration line, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) which is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. For applicants with special speech or hearing needs, the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585. Applicants may also register online at www.fema.gov. Residents are encouraged to register prior to visiting a DRC.

The U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Customer Service Representatives at the DRCs will be available to assist applicants fill out disaster loan applications. SBA offers low-interest disaster loans to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private non-profit organizations. These loans are to repair or replace homes, businesses and personal property damaged by the severe storms, floods and tornadoes.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
