EAGLE PASS, Texas -- Recovery officials want to remind those who have registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to keep in touch and report any changes in their status or personal information.
After disasters, displaced families may change addresses a number of times as they look for suitable housing. Sometimes, in the process, they may forget to call the registration line (1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585) to update their address and leave a phone number where they can be reached.
"Keeping this important information current is vital," said Federal Coordinating Officer Tony Russell. "Also, applicants are encouraged to update their insurance information if that has changed from what was originally reported."
Remember that registering with other agencies, such as the Red Cross, does not register you with FEMA. Those who need to apply for disaster assistance can still call toll-free: 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585. Lines are open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and multilingual operators are available.
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
