ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) have extended the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Richmond County to provide face-to-face assistance to those affected by the April 14-18 nor'easter.

The DRC is open at 4434 Amboy Road, Staten Island, N.Y. 10312, from noon to 8 p.m. weekdays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It will close this weekend only to allow a change of equipment, reopening Monday at noon at the same address and hours. The DRC will close May 25.

On April 24, President George Bush, at the request of Gov. Eliot Spitzer, declared a disaster in New York for the April nor'easter. Counties eligible for disaster aid to households include Albany, Dutchess, Orange, Richmond (Borough of Staten Island), Rockland, Ulster and Westchester.

Individuals with hearing or speech impairments should call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. The lines are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Register anytime online at www.fema.gov. Registrants should use the name on their Social Security card when registering online.
