FEMA, SEMO And NYC Send Mobile Disaster Recovery Center To Staten Island

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), New York State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) and the City of New York have opened a Mobile Disaster Recovery Center in Staten Island to provide face-to-face assistance to those affected by the April 14-18 nor’easter. The mobile unit was opened today at noon at 4434 Amboy Road, Staten Island 10312, and will remain open through Tuesday, May 15.

The president, at the request of the governor, declared the counties of Albany, Dutchess, Orange, Richmond, Rockland and Westchester eligible for disaster aid following the April severe weather.

The State, City of New York and FEMA want to make sure all homeowners, renters and business owners who incurred damage during the recent storm have the opportunity to meet with experts who can answer questions regarding assistance.

At the mobile Disaster Recovery Center (DRC), applicants can:

Disaster assistance experts from FEMA and SEMO, as well as from the SBA, will be on hand at the DRC to answer questions and provide recovery information. Written materials about various assistance programs also are available to individuals and business owners.

Those affected by the mid-April storm may visit the mobile DRC through Tuesday, May 15, during the following hours:

Weekdays: noon – 8 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: noon – 4 p.m.

It is important to register with FEMA prior to visiting a DRC. At the time of registration, applicants will be given a registration number, which will be needed when they inquire about their status. To register for federal and state assistance, call FEMA’s toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Individuals with hearing or speech impairments should call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. The lines are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Register anytime online at www.fema.gov. Online, be careful to use your name as shown on your Social Security card.
