Disaster Aid For Georgia's Tornado And Severe Storm Recovery Tops $14 Million

CORDELE, Ga. -- As registration closed Wednesday for federal disaster assistance on Georgia's tornadoes and severe storms of early March, 1,836 households have registered, according to officials of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA).  More than $14.2 million in federal disaster assistance funds have been approved.

This includes more than $1.19 million in FEMA assistance for individuals and households and more than  $7.2 million in low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for homeowners, renters and businesses. This individual assistance was approved for nine counties: Baker, Crawford, Dougherty, McDuffie, Mitchell, Sumter, Taylor, Warren, and Worth.

Also, FEMA and GEMA have obligated $5.8 million in Public Assistance funds to communities and counties for debris removal, disaster-related emergency services and repair or reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, with additional funding being approved weekly. Public Assistance was approved for 13 counties: Baker, Clay, Crawford, Hancock, McDuffie, Mitchell, Muscogee, Stewart, Sumter, Taylor, Warren, Webster, and Wilkinson.
