CORDELE, Ga. -- Those people affected by the March 1-2 severe storms and tornadoes have only one day left to apply for federal disaster assistance.
Wednesday, May 2, is the registration application deadline the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency set for Georgia residents, renters and business owners in the nine counties declared for Individual Assistance.
The toll-free number and the FEMA web site are two ways to begin the application process. Residents may call the registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800- 462-7585 for the hearing-or speech-impaired. Multilingual operators are available through the same numbers. Residents with Internet access have the option to apply on the Web at www.fema.gov.
For those who have already registered, the above numbers also serve as the FEMA Helpline where they can update their registration and obtain other disaster-recovery information.
Federal and state officials remind those affected by the recent tornadoes that they must apply by the appropriate deadlines to receive disaster assistance.
FEMA coordinates the federal government’s role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
Disaster recovery assistance is available without regard to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability, economic status or retaliation.
