3 Federal Regions and 14 States Promote Disaster Resistance

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Emergency managers from three federal regions and over 15 states and territories will meet today with business and community counterparts at the Renaissance Parc 55 Hotel in San Francisco for a special three-day Western Territory Project Impact Summit. According to FEMA Regional Director David L. de Courcy, the three regions share similar natural hazard profiles, and the upcoming summit is an efficient forum for sharing lessons learned and success stories.
"Project Impact is all about forging local stakeholder partnerships, prioritizing hazards, pooling resources, taking action, and sharing successes while building more disaster resistant communities," said de Courcy. "Our region includes Alaska, Oregon, Idaho and Washington, and hazard profiles range from earthquakes, wildfire and floods, to winter storms and even volcanic activity. This 'first-of-its-kind' Western Territory Project Impact Summit unites over 50 Project Impact communities and their public and private partners to leverage each other's mitigation initiatives and help insure that their successes are sustained well into the coming decades."
