New Castle, DE -- If you had flood damages from Tropical Storm Henri or Hurricane Isabel and were insured, you can sit down with an insurance representative on Saturday, and discuss your flood insurance issues.

To further help individuals and business owners affected by the recent storms, insurance specialists from the State Insurance Commissioner's Office and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) will be at the FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Center (DRC), for one day - October 25 - from 9:30 to 6:30, to talk individually with those who have insurance questions.

"This is the second time a flood insurance claims specialist has partnered with a representative from the State Insurance Commissioner's Office at the St. Marks Disaster Recovery Center to answer specific insurance questions," said George Currin, NFIP officer for this disaster. "Having the two offices represented gives people a chance to talk about problems or concerns with their claims or their adjusters."

Currently there are 209 flood claims in Delaware; 163 of these claims are in New Castle county.

The DRC, located at 1700 Limestone Road, Wilmington, is staffed with program specialists to answer questions and provide information on the types of recovery assistance available, including a representative with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

Anyone affected by the recent storms is urged to start the application process before visiting the center by calling FEMA's toll-free number at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Hearing and speech-impaired individuals may call TTY at 1-800-462-7585.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
