DENVER, Co. -- Here are some recent developments and helpful information regarding the federal and state recovery efforts after the May 22 tornado, and the May 26 presidential disaster declaration:
-
As of close of business Tuesday, May 27, 189 people had registered with FEMA for disaster-related Individual Assistance for temporary housing, basic repairs and essential personal property not covered by insurance.
-
FEMA residential damage inspectors are in the field. They can register people using their palm pads. The inspectors always carry photo identification. They will never ask for money or recommend a contractor. If someone is uncomfortable giving registration information to an inspector, they can register by phone at
1-800-621-FEMA (1-800-621-3362) or
TTY 1-800-7585 for people with speech or hearing impairments, or online at
www.fema.gov.
-
The best way to register is by phone or on the internet.
-
Three Preliminary Damage Assessment (PDA) teams, composed of local, state and federal officials, are looking at damage to infrastructure, public buildings and public property in Windsor, Greeley, Colorado State University and other locations in Larimer and Weld counties to determine if there is sufficient damage to qualify for the addition of Public Assistance to the presidential disaster declaration.
-
A Disaster Recovery Center opened Tuesday afternoon in Windsor. Representatives from FEMA, the SBA, state and local housing agencies, the American Red Cross, and other volunteer agencies are there to provide information and referrals for disaster assistance. The DRC is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day, until further notice. It is located at:
Windsor High School Gymnasium
1100 W. Main St.
Windsor, CO 80550
