State Of Alabama To Receive Funds For Emergency Preparedness Program

Atlanta, GA -- TThe Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that the state of Alabama is receiving $25 million of the Department of Defense's (DOD) allocation to the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) today.

The money made available by FEMA's Region IV Office in Atlanta, includes $16 million to be used for special needs planning, public education, response plans and for the procurement of re-circulation filters and communication systems. Another $9 million will be used to fund collective protective projects such as enhancements to schools and hospitals and special facilities planning.

An additional $15.5 million is expected soon, as FEMA continues to work with Alabama emergency management officials to ensure the entire allocation will be used for proven protective measures in the state.

FEMA Region IV Director Ken Burris said, "We will continue to work with Alabama and the Anniston community to ensure the best emergency preparedness possible."
