Kansas City, MO -- If you suffered damages from the recent ice storm (beginning January 29) you may still be eligible for disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) even if you were insured.

The law does not allow disaster aid to duplicate insurance benefits. However, if your insurance does not cover all of your costs or damage and you still have unmet needs, FEMA may be able to help.

Because insurance claims may take longer to settle than the 60 day FEMA registration period, people who suffered damage or incurred losses from the ice storm should still apply by calling toll-free: 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). TTY service is available at 1-800-462-7585 for anyone who is hearing or speech impaired. The registration numbers are available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., (CST), seven days a week until further notice.
