Federal Officials Begin Tour Of Chuuk's Outer Islands

Dededo, Guam -- Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) began a two-week Applicant Assistance boat tour of the Outer Islands of Chuuk on Sept. 11th. The visits are being conducted to provide people affected by Tropical Storm Chata'an with a place to apply for federal help.
FEMA currently has Disaster Recovery Centers in Chuuk taking disaster applications. Since it is difficult for people living on the outer islands to visit these centers, FEMA is bringing the floating Recovery Center to them.
The vessel, which departed from Weno, will visit Murilo, Ruo, Fananu, Namwin and Pisarach, during the first days of the journey. Residents are being notified of the boat's arrival via radio. Locations of other islands to be visited will be announced as the trip progresses. Also among the federal officials visiting the islands are housing inspectors, who will verify disaster losses.
To-date, a total of 8,378 people from Chuuk have registered for disaster assistance at the Recovery Centers. Of that total, 8250 inspections have been completed and forwarded to FEMA's operations center in Guam for processing.
