Deadline Nears -- One Week Left To Apply For Disaster Assistance

Dededo, Guam --Residents and business owners who have not yet registered for federal disaster assistance have only one more week to apply. Tuesday, September 10 is the last day to file applications, according to FEMA and GovGuam recovery officials.
"It may not seem like it has been two months since Typhon Chata'an hit Guam; however, there are only a few days left to call the toll-free number to apply for disaster assistance," Deputy Federal Coordinating Officer Woody Goins said. "Applications need to be made on or before the September 10 deadline."
Phone lines will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Guam time, and specialists will be available to take your application. The toll-free telephone number to call is 1-800-621-3362. Those with speech or hearing impairments can call 1-800-462-7585.
Disaster officials urge people not to wait until the September 10 deadline to call. Traditionally, there are a lot of calls on the last day, and officials stress that they do not want anyone left out of the process. The most important thing is to be in the application system before the deadline.
Applications can also be made by visiting one of the Disaster Recovery Centers. They are located at the Yigo gymnasium and the Merizo Community Center, and are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Due to the Primary Election, both offices will be closed on Saturday, September 7.
Those who have already registered but need to update their information, or have questions about the status of their application, should call the local Helpline number at 633-9820, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Guam time. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster office, located on the first floor of the Micronesia Mall near the Expo Hall, will remain open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
