BATON ROUGE, La. The Department of Homeland Securitys Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Louisiana Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness (LOHSEP) officials announce the opening of two more Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs), one in Franklinton and the other in Marksville. This brings the number of centers now open to assist Louisiana victims of Hurricane Katrina to 11. The new centers are opening Saturday, September 17 at 9 a.m.

Disaster victims are urged to register for assistance first by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The TTY number is 1 800 462 7585 for those who are speech- or hearing-impaired. People who have questions may visit the center to meet face-to-face with recovery specialists.
Ten centers are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week until further notice. Only the Plaquemines Parish center has hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., due to local curfews. An applicant may visit any one of the 11 DRCs. A list of DRCs is on page two.
Representatives of state, federal, and voluntary agencies, as well as loan officers from the U.S. Small Business Administration will be on hand to answer questions and provide recovery information. Written materials about various assistance programs are also available to individuals and business owners.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
