Quincy, MA to Celebrate Project Impact Partnership with FEMA

Boston, MA -- The City of Quincy will host a Project Impact Signing Ceremony as a formal commitment to making their communities disaster- resistant. Known as the "City of Presidents", Quincy was the home to the second and sixth U.S. presidents, John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams, were both born there. Quincy is a coastal community in Norfolk County on the shore of Massachusetts Bay. The city forms the southern corporate limits of Boston. The City is heavily developed, with a strong commercial and shopping area.
Quincy is impacted primarily by flooding and high winds from coastal storms, especially "nor'easters" which are strong storms from the northeast that can last several days. The Blizzard of 1978 and the October 1991 and December 1992 northeasters, all disaster declarations, had a major impact on the community in terms of loss due to flooding.
Every year disasters cause the disruption of lives, millions of dollars in property damages and economic losses to businesses. Project Impact, unveiled in 1997, is a national initiative that encourages communities, individuals and businesses to become disaster-resistant by initiating common sense measures to reduce or prevent repetitive losses.
Who: Mayor James A. Sheets, Quincy City Councilors, FEMA Director Setti D. Warren will join the Quincy Emergency Management Agency, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, local officials, community leaders and business partners at the ceremony.
