CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Office of Emergency Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are winding down their Building Supply Outreach Partnership at the Lowe’s home supply store to assist people with mitigation information in Fayette County.
Flood victims are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to hear FEMA specialists explain mitigation techniques that can lessen damage to homes, businesses and property from future flooding. Brochures will be available from the National Flood Insurance Program on mitigation techniques such as retrofitting and elevation.
The team will also supply information on how people can get help with other disaster-related questions. Specialists will be available through Saturday, Aug. 28, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The public is encouraged to drop by and pick up informative materials and speak with mitigation experts about their homes and businesses.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
