INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- State, federal, local and voluntary agencies continue to provide disaster assistance to individuals and businesses that suffered damage from the May 25 through June 25 storms.
Friday, August 6 Disaster Assistance Update
- 68 counties are designated for disaster recovery assistance under the Individuals and Households Program (IHP).
- 18 counties are designated for disaster recovery assistance for government entities under the Public Assistance (PA) program.
- 5,214 individuals have called the FEMA toll-free registration number 800-621-FEMA (3362), or TTY: 800-462-7585 to apply for assistance. The deadline for application was August 2.
- $4,688,687 has been approved through the Individuals and Households Program. Of that, $4,674,946 has been disbursed to victims.
- $15,220,300 in loans has been approved by the Small Business Administration (SBA) for homeowners, renters and businesses. The SBA has sent out 3,827 loan applications. Applications should have been returned to the SBA by the August 2 deadline.
- 1,579 people have visited the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) and SBA workshops.
- 3,629 home inspections have been requested. The five inspectors in the field have completed 3,505 of home inspections.
- 131 Public Assistance applicants are being assisted to determine reimbursement of eligible damages. PA assistance is available to government entities to help with eligible costs associated with debris removal, emergency protective measures, and repairing or replacing public facilities damaged by the tornadoes and flooding and may also be provided to repair, restore or replace facilities owned by certain private, nonprofit organizations.
- HOPE Coalition America, in partnership with FEMA, is addressing the short, medium and long-term economic and financial challenges of workers and communities following the May storms. HOPE Corps members will guide individuals through the process of maintaining or regaining control of their financial lives. Residents may call 888-388- HOPE for more information.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
