WASHINGTON, D.C. -- New information on the Federal, state and local response to the Kansas disaster.
- The National Weather Service reports Kansas is under the slight risk of severe weather today. A few supercells with isolated, brief tornadoes are possible in the afternoon and early evening. The area of severe weather is forecast to move more northerly Monday night into Tuesday, affecting northern Kansas, southern Nebraska and northwest Missouri.
- The federal/state Disaster Field Office is fully operational in Wichita.
- A Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will open in Haysville today.
- Two Preliminary Damage Assessment teams are working in Sedgwick County.
- Debris removal operations are underway and proceeding well.
- Disaster Statistics:
- 5 deaths; 150+ injuries
- Twenty-eight of the injured are hospitalized in serious or critical condition.
- Homes affected: 3,347
- Twenty-seven businesses were destroyed in Haysville, plus three churches, one library, one senior home and a Masonic lodge.
