WICHITA, Kan. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free registration line (1-800-462-9029, TTY 1-800-462-7585) and the toll-free FEMA Helpline (1-800-525-0321, TTY 1-800-462-7585) both will be open on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Regular hours for these toll-free numbers are Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Those who have registered with FEMA and have questions about their applications or about the programs for which they may qualify should call the FEMA Helpline.

Charles E. Biggs, federal coordinating officer, said, "Even if you have insurance to cover some of your storm losses, you should take a few minutes to register with FEMA. You may find that you are eligible for disaster assistance over and above what your insurance covers."

Terri Ploger, State of Kansas coordinating officer, added, "If you were uninsured, underinsured or your insurance company did not fully cover your losses, you should take the first step and register with FEMA. There are assistance programs that may be able to help you."

Available disaster programs include temporary housing, individual and family grants, disaster unemployment assistance, low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration for homeowners, renters or business owners, and other aid programs.
