SBA Workshops to Close in Wichita, Haysville

WICHITA, Kan. -- State and federal officials have announced the closing of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) workshops in Wichita and Haysville, Kan., on June 4, 1999. The workshop in Wichita is the old Spaghetti Jack's location in the West Way Shopping Center, 2561 South Seneca St. In Haysville, the workshop is in the old Leeker Building, 325 North Main.

Through June 4, SBA representatives will be available to assist applicants in obtaining information on disaster assistance programs, including low-interest, long-term loans to help cover residental and business losses not fully insured. The hours of the workshops are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

An SBA spokesperson said that even though these facilities are closing, all residents and business owners who sustained damages to homes or personal property from severe storms and tornadoes on May 3, 1999, are encouraged to apply for disaster assistance before the 60-day disaster application period closes on July 2.

Kansans from the affected counties of Reno, Sedgwick and Sumner wishing to apply may call the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at 800-462-9029 (TTY 800-462-7585). Disaster assistance specialists are available to take calls between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. CDT Monday through Saturday.

Those with questions about FEMA programs or the status of their applications may call the FEMA Helpline at 800-525-0321 (TTY 800-462-7585). Helpline specialists are available every day but Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CDT.
