TEXARAKANA, Texas -- The Disaster Recovery Center in DeKalb will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday, effective Wednesday, May 19.

Tornado victims should first register for disaster assistance by calling the toll-free teleregistration number, 1-800-462-9029, or 1-800-462-7585 (TDD) for the hearing and speech impaired.

The Disaster Recovery Center provides information about the types of assistance available to residents of Bowie and Red River counties who suffered losses and damage in the severe storms and tornadoes of May 4. Representatives from various government and volunteer agencies can provide information on such disaster-related issues as emergency needs, housing assistance, home repair assistance, disaster unemployment benefits, disaster loans, tax assistance, legal services, and individual and family grants.

An information Helpline is also available to answer disaster victims' questions about the assistance programs. The toll-free Helpline number is 1-800-525-0321.
