Severe Weather Update

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Weather Service (NWS) reports severe weather, in the form of thunderstorms and the possibility of tornadoes, exists today for much of north and western Texas, eastern New Mexico, southeastern Oklahoma, northern and central Louisiana and Colorado.
Yesterday, severe weather hit parts of western and south central Texas, including a tornado in Lee County, flooding in Presidio, Lee and Midland counties, and wind gusts in excess of 60 mph in Gaines and Midland counties. Local officials do not report any significant structural damage.
As many as four injuries are reported in El Paso County, Colo., due to lightning strikes. Farther north, a tornado was reported in Michigan, but there are no reports of injuries or damage.
NWS forecasters are expecting the possibility of isolated thunderstorms throughout the day in Arizona and Utah, and thunderstorms may occur in southern Colorado. Rain and windy weather are on tap from the Great Lakes to Maine, and residents of southern Florida can expect rain.
The system that moved through the eastern and southeastern U. S. yesterday left some damage in its wake. While it appears there was some damage over a widespread area, local officials reports indicate it is not significant. Downed power lines and trees and some structural damage, particularly roof damage, are reported in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. There are also reports of minor damage in Tennessee and Mississippi. There are no reports of casualties from those incidents this morning.
