CORDELE, Ga. -- Three of the five state/federal Disaster Recovery Centers established to aid those affected by the severe storms and tornadoes of March 1-2 will close this week and another is opening, officials at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) announced today.

Closings:

Opening:

A new Taylor County DRC will open on Friday, March 16, at the Fire and EMS Building , 29 South Collins St. , Reynolds. The new DRC will operate for two days only - Friday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Remaining open:

The remaining two DRCs will be open from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday until further notice.

There have been 1,695 visits to the five DRCs as of close of business March 12.

At the DRCs, representatives of the state and federal governments and voluntary agencies, as well as customer service representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration, are available to answer questions and provide recovery information. Written materials about various assistance programs also are available to individuals and business owners. No cash, checks, debit cards or vouchers are distributed by FEMA at the DRC. The center is for the dissemination of information to assist in victim recovery.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident, initiates mitigation activities and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA works closely with state and local emergency managers, law enforcement personnel, firefighters and other first responders. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
