Mitigation Techniques for Coastal Construction Class Offered

Biloxi, Miss. -- Registrations are being accepted for the class "Mitigation Techniques for Residential and Light Commercial Coastal Construction," which will be held on Thursday, March 29 at the Mississippi State University Extension Services large training auditorium. The class, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., will provide useful information to building officials, contractors, architects and design professionals.
Architects from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will cover basic design ideas and concepts of concrete masonry unit construction, wood and light steel platform framing and steel frame buildings. Also, the architects will discuss how these concepts and designs mitigate damage from high winds and floods. While technical in nature, the information presented will be easily understood by professionals and non-professionals alike.

The Mississippi State University Extension Services large training auditorium is located at 1815 Popps Ferry Road, Biloxi, Miss.
FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident, initiates mitigation activities and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA works closely with state and local emergency managers, law enforcement personnel, firefighters and other first responders. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
