Waldorf, MD -- Federal agencies will end their presence at the People’s Place at the close of business Friday, May 31. After that, these agencies will continue to serve the needs of tornado affected residents of southern Maryland through their 800 toll free telephone services, state and federal recovery officials said today.

Federal Coordinating Officer Tom Davies of the Federal Emergency Management Agency said, “Traffic at our People’s Place offices has diminished significantly since they opened, and we can now transition to serving remaining questions and needs by telephone.”

As of May 21, federal agencies have assisted 477 tornado-affected area residents since they joined state, local and volunteer efforts at the People’s Place.

After June 1, those seeking further information from federal agencies about recovery assistance may contact the agencies at the following numbers: FEMA Helpline, 1-800-621-FEMA (TTY: 1-800-462-7585); Small Business Administration (SBA), 1-800-659-2955; and Internal Revenue Service (IRS), 1-800-829-1040.

FEMA and the state also remind all that have received an SBA low interest disaster loan application package that there is no need to wait for an insurance settlement to return that package.

“We need to hear from you as soon as possible,” said State Coordinating Officer Donald L. Keldsen of the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). “Don’t wait to fill out that SBA application. Do it now. Return the loan application and let SBA determine if you are eligible for a loan.”
