Wise, VA -- On May 15, the counties of Bedford, Campbell, Cumberland, Greensville, Prince Edward and Shenandoah and the independent city of Bedford were added to an earlier presidential disaster declaration because of damage from late April's strong winds and tornadoes.

While 44 residents of those localities have applied for assistance thus far, it is important for the remainder of citizens affected by these storms to register as soon as possible.

Those who sustained storm damage are urged to call the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) registration number: 1-800-621-FEMA (1-800-621-3362). The disaster assistance process begins by calling that number. For the speech- or hearing- impaired, there is a TTY NUMBER: 1-800-462-7585. Both numbers are available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
