ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Disaster Recovery Center in Ft. Walton Beach will cease operations at the close of business on Friday, Nov. 11, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Florida State Emergency Response team (SERT) announced today.

The center opened July 16, 2005. Since then, it has served more than 10,000 victims of hurricanes Dennis, Katrina, and Rita. The center has assisted 1,996 citizens seeking aid in the wake of Hurricane Dennis and 8,098 out-of-state Katrina and Rita evacuees. At its peak, the Ft. Walton Beach DRC was seeing more than 300 people per day, making it an incredibly busy center.
